Story of Manoppello Coffee House

Story

A small house with a deeper story.

Manoppello began as a simple idea. A warm place where people could gather, rest, and encounter something of God in the middle of the city.

The Beginning

Where it all started.

The coffee house grew out of the mission of St Patrick’s Soho. For many years, the parish has been a place where people from every walk of life come together, whether for worship, community, or support. The team saw the need for a quiet, welcoming space where visitors and parishioners could meet, talk, and find a moment of stillness. The crypt beneath the church offered the perfect home. What began as a small project soon became a place of encounter for the neighbourhood.

Rooted in Prayer • Shaped by Hospitality • Born Beneath the Sanctuary •

Our Name

Why Manoppello

The name comes from the town of Manoppello in Italy, where an ancient veil bearing the image of Christ’s face has been kept for centuries. It is a reminder that God sees and knows each person. The café carries this name as a quiet nod to that truth. Every person who steps through the door is welcomed with the same dignity and attention.

A House Beneath the Sanctuary

Our location shapes who we are

Just a few steps above the café is the sanctuary of St Patrick’s. Beneath it, Manoppello serves as a kind of lower room. A place for conversation, hospitality, and gentle evangelisation. The chapel beside the café keeps the Blessed Sacrament close, and its presence gives the whole space a steady, prayerful heart. People often arrive for coffee and find themselves drawn to the chapel for a quiet moment.

Three threads weave together to form our identity

Coffee

Our coffee is sourced from Monmouth Coffee Company and prepared by trained baristas. Craft matters to us because care speaks its own language.

Bookshop

The bookshop reflects the monastic roots that inspire our parish. Our devotional items come from monasteries and convents, carrying with them a spirit of prayer and simplicity.

Chapel

The chapel beside the café is a quiet space where the Blessed Sacrament is reserved. It keeps the centre of our house rooted in prayer.

A Mission That Feeds

Every cup becomes a meal

Manoppello exists to support the outreach work of St Patrick’s Open House. The meals, support, and friendship offered to those living on the streets are sustained in part by visits to the café. It is a simple way for ordinary hospitality to become a source of hope for others.

Looking Ahead

A place for community to grow

As the parish continues to welcome newcomers, support the vulnerable, and share faith in a busy part of London, the coffee house remains a small but steady part of that work. We want Manoppello to stay a home where people feel seen, included, and encouraged.
